What will make me happy?

A million-dollar question indeed! Every single individual is figuring out the answer to this question.

Once, a small kid was asked, ‘Are you happy?’

He answered that I would be happy when I grow up like my parents who do not have to go to school.

The kid grew up and got his first job; he was asked the same question, ‘Are you happy?’

He answered that I would be happy once I get married and have a beautiful life-partner.

After a few years, that same person got married and was asked, ‘Are you happy’?

He said, ‘not really my responsibilities have doubled up, I will be happy when I have my own house and enough wealth to take care of my family.

He worked a day in and out without resting at all. After some time, he grows to become one of the wealthiest persons. He was asked, ‘Are you happy?

He said, not really as my kids don’t listen to me at all, and my wife never understands me. I feel very lonely and left out’’.

After a few years, the man dies off, leaving behind millions of worth bank balance.

This is a real-life story of affluent people, whom the society considers to be very lucky, but who were always in search of happiness, and die off without finding any. This story somewhere resembles each one of our stories, as we are only running after money to find joy in it.

One typical trait of today’s life is that you will strive and strive to realize your dreams. The moment those dreams come as reality to you, you have the next set of dreams to chase after. Many times, by the time our dreams come true, the demands and situations of life have changed so much that those achievments don’t matter much to you.

So, just see how fast-paced life has become. And, one truth of life is, ‘Money can only bring comforts to you, but mental peace and happiness are far beyond its reach’.

Now, imagine you are driving the best Mercedes car around, but your back hurts. What good is that top-class car if you can’t even sit comfortably in it? This is something that most people realize much later in their lives when something like this actually happens.

Money is surely important but remember it can only buy you food, not happiness. You must have heard of this saying, ‘Life is a journey, not a destination.’ So, you need to enjoy every single moment of life trying to reach your destination.

This is a mistake many people make only to regret later when time is not by their side. This is what, Steve Jobs, one of the richest men on Earth, the founder of Apple Inc. has to say about life. These were his words just before his death when he was bed-ridden due to pancreatic cancer…….

“I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to. At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.”

There are thousands of people across the planet still, who are living a much better life than the I-phone king. This definitely shows that money is just one of the many aspects of living happily. It is all the matter of having the right perspective towards life. Wear your failures like a crown and let each moment of life be lived with full zeal, vigor, and happiness.

Tip: It has been scientifically proven that people with a high happiness index usually suffer from fewer health challenges. Such people live a long, happy and healthy life. Now, the choice is really in your own hands…..
